Sorcery

Spell Obstacle

Spell Ob = sum of facets: Origin + Area of Effect + Duration + Element + Impetus.

Roll Sorcery skill vs. spell Ob.

Sustained Spells

Each sustained spell imposes -1D to all other Sorcery tests. Sorcerer may drop a sustained spell at any time.

Tax

Tax is applied to Forte after every casting attempt.

Outcome Tax
Success Ob − margin of success (min 1)
Failure Full Ob of the spell

Forte Tax Test

Roll Forte vs. accumulated tax.

Result Consequence
Success Sorcerer weathers the strain
Failure, tax > Forte Knocked out
Failure, tax ≥ 2× Forte May die

Tax recovers at ~1 die per scene of rest.

Spell Failure

Margin of Failure Consequence
1–2 Garbled Transmission — spell fires with wrong target, element, area, or duration
3+ Unwanted Summoning — hostile supernatural entity drawn to the site

Failed spells still impose full tax.

Sorcery Damage

Damaging spells use the standard IMS system. Spell power determines base damage; extra successes escalate through I → M → S based on the spell’s Add.
