Sorcery
Spell Obstacle
Spell Ob = sum of facets: Origin + Area of Effect + Duration + Element + Impetus.
Roll Sorcery skill vs. spell Ob.
Sustained Spells
Each sustained spell imposes -1D to all other Sorcery tests. Sorcerer may drop a sustained spell at any time.
Tax
Tax is applied to Forte after every casting attempt.
| Outcome | Tax |
|---|---|
| Success | Ob − margin of success (min 1) |
| Failure | Full Ob of the spell |
Forte Tax Test
Roll Forte vs. accumulated tax.
| Result | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Success | Sorcerer weathers the strain |
| Failure, tax > Forte | Knocked out |
| Failure, tax ≥ 2× Forte | May die |
Tax recovers at ~1 die per scene of rest.
Spell Failure
| Margin of Failure | Consequence |
|---|---|
| 1–2 | Garbled Transmission — spell fires with wrong target, element, area, or duration |
| 3+ | Unwanted Summoning — hostile supernatural entity drawn to the site |
Failed spells still impose full tax.
Sorcery Damage
Damaging spells use the standard IMS system. Spell power determines base damage; extra successes escalate through I → M → S based on the spell’s Add.
